The Calgary Balloon Guy Is A Fucking Idiot

http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/he-spent-12000-on-helium-and-had-the-time-of-his-life-q-and-a-with-calgarys-balloon-man
I am coming to the table a bit late with this one, but none the less, here goes.

This has been around my social media feed for awhile, but I had been ignoring it (I hate idiots that do this kind of stuff). But my final straw was seeing someone post the link to this story as “This guy is my hero”.

REALLY?! You have got to be kidding me.

First of all, there is not a whole lot of  difference between this guy and the guy that blew himself up with a firework. Both did something incredibly stupid for the 15 minutes of social media popularity, and both got it. That may sound a bit cruel, but frankly, im calling it as I see it.

But one thing about the fire work guy, is the only person he endangered, was himself. His accident was extremely unfortanute, but it put no one else in harms way.

I can not say the same for “balloon boy” (lets call him by how he seems to display his maturity).

Everyone seems to love the little stunt he pulled, media and otherwise. Doing Q & A’s and reporting how much he spent on the chair and helium. Or his quote:

I could see 747’s landing below me

About those 747’s . . .

Did you ever consider the possibilities that would arrise if a sudden wind gust put you in the path of one of those 747’s?

Sure, you likley think you had lots of time. And im sure you would, if you could move out of the way of a jet moving at 200/300/400kms per hour (depending on if its climbing or decending). Though one would assume they would see you coming, there is thing thing called a wake vortex.  Such phenomenon have brought down jet liners before, so imagine riding one in a lawnchair held up by balloons. . .

And then there is the unthinkable. You and the metal chair end up in an engine. At best, your stupid cost a whole lot of money and inconvenienced a whole lot of people. At worst, carnage both to the plane AND anyone that ends up being below it.

Maybe that is all, a bit of stretch, when it comes to thing that could have happened. But none the less, this prick still should not be a social media hero.

You want a hero?

Try the crew that would rescue this guy if he got caught up in some power lines.
